“I used to be a temporary employee in the metalworking sector. I would sent out welders, construction fitters, and operators, so I was already very familiar with “this world”. I was looking for a new challenge, but I wanted to stay in the metalworking sector. I noticed 247TailorSteel online and took a look at the kind of work they did. It appealed to me and, as an account manager, I thought I could contribute. However, I live in Friesland and then I would have to drive to Varsseveld to apply, yet the product ‘cut and bent metal’ was also made in Friesland, Groningen, and Drenthe? At the job interview, it quickly became clear to me that the management, the way of working, and the purchasing process for clients is completely different. And when I was allowed to take a look at the production space, I knew it for sure: if I get this chance, then I’m going to take it!

It is a story that I’m happy to have in my back pocket, especially because it is story that not every company can tell. What’s great is that there are still so many people to bring to our side in the northern parts of the country. Honestly, the farther you travel from our headquarters, the less people know about us. So that story is an interesting way to start a conversation.

When I visit a business, I am initially curious about its purchasing process for cutting and bending work. This often turns out to follow the old standards in terms of the quotation process and delivery times. It can be done more quickly and more easily, and I try to cultivate that awareness. If they can provide me with a model drawing, I open my laptop and show them how Sophia would handle it. Not to mention that clients can always make a small sample order with us. That’s something they often do and, if they are curious about how things work at the company beyond just Sophia, they are more than welcome to stop by. This allows them to see everything as a whole.

Simply put, the plug-and-play principle at 247TailorSteel works very well. It isn’t always all that interesting to purchase a machine yourself. ‘Is it profitable?’ Previously, your own machine meant greater speed. Thanks to Sophia, you can achieve these same speeds, so it quickly becomes more interesting to make flexible use of the machines we have at hand, instead of making a substantial investment in expanding your own machine collection.

The orientation process

Enough about my daily work. If I’m going to sell 247TailorSteel ‘as an employer’, then the first thing I have to mention is the personalized attention that you receive. This comes through in questions like: What resources do you need? What training courses would you like to take and why would they help you? I found the orientation process to be very professional, too. It’s nothing like, “Here’s your car. That’s where you work. Good luck!” You are provided with an extensive knowledge of all the workflows, which is the way it should be. You spend a day with a driver, in the purchasing department, in the planning department, and in the production area. I even worked a night shift. If you know these processes, you also know what is pertinent to you. You literally walk through the entire order process of a client.
